3D Reverse engineering workflow
Learn more about 3D Reverse engineering workflow with QUICKSURFACE software
QUICKSURFACE is a complete 3D reverse engineering solution that complements any 3D scanner.
It is created for engineers who want access to 3D modelling, using their scanned data, but face the limitations of the traditional CAD systems.
These are the main steps in 3D Reverse engineering workflow:
Import scanned mesh
Import 3D mesh from any 3D scanner into QUICKSURFACE.
The mesh has to have topology so the format of the file should be OBJ, STL or PLY. The built-in polygon reduction function allows the user to use any size of mesh, and to reduce it with a suitable number of triangles without compromising the quality of the mesh.
Mesh Selection
Use the Interactive mesh selection Mesh Selection to mark the features.
Simple-to-use Mesh Selection tools of QUICKSURFACE allows quickly extracting areas of interest, such as planes, cylinders, spheres, free form patches, revolved and extruded surfaces.
Create primitives
Extract features and create primitives.
Use the extracted features and quickly reconstruct planes, cylinders, cones, and spheres. You can establish relationships between them, such as perpendicularity, parallelism, and coincidence.
Align the mesh
Align mesh into the world coordinate system
Position the object into the world coordinate system using the extracted primitives. The interactive definition of the coordinate system allows the user to adjust the correct orientation of the object.
2D Sketching
Create 2D Sketches for Revolved and Extruded surfaces.
Interactive sectioning allows the user to extract reference points for 2D Sketching. Align the section plane to the extracted primitives, CAD faces or even create sections interactively on the screen. Use dimensions and constraints tools to create accurate sketches.
Trimming
Use Trim command to create connected surfaces as surfaces or solid bodies.
In QUICKSURFACE Pro you can create surfaces or solids by using mutual trim operation or boolean operations on solids. The coloured display and diagnostic tools allow you to identify the issues while performing these operations.
Patterns
Build linear or circular patterns for repeated objects. Use also mirror object if needed.
To fulfil the requirements of precise 3D reverse engineering, generate repetitive patterns of objects by arranging them in linear or circular formations. When necessary, enhance symmetry by incorporating object mirroring.
Round edges
Create fillets or chamfers where needed.
The chamfer and fillet operations come with a real-time analyser. Simply drag the arrow to define the fillet radius on the screen and instantly observe the deviation of the fillets against the reference mesh—all in real-time.
Export
Export the results to other packages for further use.
To finish you 3D Reverse engineering project export reconstructed surfaces or solid models for use in other packages using the industry standard format STEP or IGES.
